In the genus Acalles (including Kykliocalles) seven species has been recorded from Sweden. However, the species are hard to detemine, and therefore a review of a large Swedish material was done with the aim to make a reliable identification key and to describe the distribution and frequency of Acalles in Sweden. Six species were found from Sweden, thus one species Acalles fallax has been misidentified and should be deleted from the Swedish species list. The most frequent and widely distributed species in Sweden is Acalles echinatus, together with Kyklioacalles navieresi. The latter has earlier been misidentified as K. roboris, a species that has shown to occur only at one locality in Scania. Acalles ptinoides has only been found in the western part of Sweden, and A. camelus occurs in two areas, in Scania and on Gotland. A. misellus is only found on two localities along the western coast of Scania. The biology of these species is poorly known. They are assumed to reproduce in dead wood, but there are no rearing records to prove that. Based on how other species are distributed in Europe it is unlikely that any more specieswill be detected in Sweden, unless species are splitted.
