Scolytidae type collection of Victor Motschulsky, including types for 19 species, is revised. Types for all Scolytidae species described by Victor Motschulsky with the only exception of the type for Tomicus subelongatus Motschulsky, 1860 were found in the collection. Lectotypes for 19 Scolytidae species are designated. We have confirmed opinion that Phloiotribus subquadratus Motschulsky, 1866 should be excluded from Scolytidae and transferred into Anobiidae nearby genus Xyletinus. One new important synonymy for a widespread tropical ambrosia beetle is established: Xyleborus denticulus (Motschulsky, 1863) = Xyleborus similis Ferrari, 1867, syn.n.
