A species list for the families Scolytidae and Platypodidae for the state of Jalisco (Coleoptera) is presented. Scolytidae includes the higher number of species (181) within 45 genera. It is followed by Platypodidae with 6 species of 4 genera. A list of hosts is presented, that include 95 species of plants of 65 genera within 44 families. The included taxa are analyzed by feeding habits specially those floeofagous; biogeographic patterns are included from which Neotropical species are dominant. From the 526 species described from Mexico 47 were described from Jalisco representing the 8.9% of the total. Feeding habits for each species are included as well as biological comments and distribution.
