AB - The species actually attributed to the genera Epipolaeus Weise, 1907 and Mitoplinthus Reitter, 1897 are examined. Epipolaeus Weise is a junior synonym of Mitoplinthus Reitter. This genus is composed of two species: M. pubescens (Petri, 1896) (type species by monotypy) and M. caliginosus (Fabricius, 1775). The populations of M. caliginosus from Central and Western Pyrenees are differentiated at subspecifical level on the basis of the structure and disposition of the sclerites of the internal sac of the aedeagus: M. caliginosus meridionalis n. ssp.. The new genus Iberoplinthus is then described. It includes Plinthus imbricatus Dufour, 1851 (type species), Plinthus perezii Brisout, 1866, Epipolaeus kricheldorffi Reitter, 1910 and Iberoplinthus curvirostris n. sp.. Plinthus holdhausi Solari, 1938, is a junior synonym of Plinthus perezii Brisout, 1866. Iberoplinthus is mainly differentiated from Mitoplinthus Reitter by the male and female genitalia, with particular regard to aedeagus, sclerites of the internal sac and spiculum ventrale. All the species belonging to the two genera are thoroughly examined. The neotypes of Curculio caliginosus Fabricius, 1775 (deposited at the British Museum of Natural History, London) and Plinthus perezii Brisout, 1866 (Museum d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris, coll. Hoffmann) are designated; lectotypes of Plinthus pubescens Petri, 1896 (Naturhistorisches Museum, Wien), Plinthus pubescens Petri, 1896 (Naturhistorisches Museum, Wien), Plinthus imbricatus Dufour, 1851 (Museum d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris) and Epipolaeus kricheldorffi Reitter, 1910 (Termeszettudomanyi Muzeum, Budapest) are also designated.

E. angustus is redescribed and figured. The distinction between the tribes Anchonini Imhoff 1856 and Molytini Schoenherr 1823 is discussed, and Euthycus is assigned to Molytini based on morphology of head, rostrum, coxae and intercoxal process of ventrite 1.

Lectotypes for Pachycerus vestitus (Fåhraeus, 1834), Pachycerus badeni (Faust, 1888), and Pachycerus sellatus Faust, 1904 are designated. Pachycerus sahelicus sp. nov. AB - The weevil genus Ita Tournier, 1878 is revised, its phylogeny inferred and its historical biogeography discussed. Its nomenclatural history is detailed and its taxonomic placement within the Curculionidae is examined; the genus is ascribed to the subfamily Curculioninae, tribe Itini. The type specimens of all the described names referable to this genus were examined and lectotypes designated. Ten new species are described. The synonymy Xeronoma Iablokov-Khnzorian, 1964 = Ita Tournier, 1878 syn. nov. is proposed. The natural history is detailed: all the species for which data are available live in halophytic habitats and are associated with the former family Chenopodiaceae. Inference on phylogeny and hypotheses on historical biogeography are proposed: the genus has probably differentiated not later than the upper Miocene along the south-eastern coasts of the Paratethys; a subsequent radiation occurred as a consequence of the tectonic evolution of the region and through events of dispersion and dispersal.

AB - A new species of Dichotrachelus is described from the Carnian Alps, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, north-eastern Italy (type locality: Moggio Udinese, Mount Sernio). The new species belongs to the D. luzei species group, previously known from Mt. Pasubio, Veneto, and Mt. Grintavec, Slovenia; its discovery in the Carnian Alps fills thus a broad gap in the distribution of this group. It is associated with Saxifraga caesia in limestone habitats; imagoes, apparently hatching in late summer, live in the small clumps of the host plants; some larvae were found among the roots. Additional specimens moderately distinct were found in the Julian Alps: taxonomic relationships between these and the type specimens of D. kahleni are discussed.

KW - Paramecops sogdianus
AB - We collected specimens of Paramecops sinaitus (Pic, 1930) (Curculionidae: Molytinae) from south Sinai in Egypt, which enabled us to make the first complete description of this species. We also include some taxonomic remarks on the genus. Paramecops solenostemmatis (Peyerimhoff, 1930) is a synonym of Paramecops sinaitus. We propose the new combination Paramecops sogdianus (Nasreddinov, 1978), based on Perihylobius sogdianus Nasreddinov, 1978, which would make Perihylobius and Paramecops synonymous. Like other Paramecops species, P. sinaitus appears to share a close interaction with Asclepiads, in this case the Sinai milkweed Asclepias sinaica (Boiss.) Muschl., 1912 (Asclepiadaceae). We investigated the oviposition behaviour of female weevils to test whether it is linked to larval performance, as predicted by coevolutionary theory. We found that female oviposition preference was positively related to plant size and to the volume of the seed follicles in which the eggs were laid. The survival of eggs was negatively related to plant size, perhaps due to plant differences in the production of defensive cardenolides. Larval survival was not related to plant size but increased with follicle volume, probably as a result of competition for food. Paramecops is relatively sedentary and nocturnal in its behaviour. Night-time observations of behaviour showed that weevils were more active at lower temperatures.
