After a vast stormfelling (75 million m3) in south Sweden in 2005, the spruce bark beetle (Ips typographus) has had two successful years. First year with large amounts of breeding substrate (wind-felled trees) and the second with extraordinary warm weather. This lead to an outbreak which killed 1,5 million m3 spruces 2006. Several measures to surpress [suppress] the outbreak are done. Some of them may be negative for threatened saproxylic species. In spite of what is done, the development of the bark beetle populations will be largely affected by the weather.
