The rare aquatic weevil Bagous elegans (FABRICIUS, 1801), formerly Dicranthus, is recorded from lake Schwielochsee, north of Jessern in south-eastern Brandenburg. A single specimen was identitied in 2008, when macroinvertebrates of larger lakes have been sampled in connection with the EU Water Framework Directive. The locality at the Schwielochsee is described and mapped, and the specimen is illustrated. Further studies are needed to identify the exact distribution and population size within the reed belts (Phragmites australi.s (CAV.) TRIN. EX STEUD.) of the lake.
